Stand-Up Mobile is a non-profit, non-partisan organization formed in January 2021, resulting from conversations between friends Amelia Bacon and Beverly Cooper after witnessing reports on January 6, 2021at the U.S. Capitol. Their discussions led to Advocacy- the need to increase voter turnout and representation by educating, informing, and empowering the community on the importance of voting and why they should vote. Voting starts on a local level to address issues regarding housing, employment, health, and safety.
“We care about our communities,” says Amelia Bacon, SUM co-founder. “To see change, we’ve got to be the change.” Voting is a way for citizens to make their voices heard by elected officials willing to advocate for issues affecting the communities they serve. SUM plans to decrease the number of inactive voters through education. “Were educating the community, getting the word out and getting into as many places as we can to talk about voting and why we must vote,” Beverly Cooper, SUM co-founder, says.
Stand Up Mobile: A Blueprint for US is committed to bringing the power of the black vote to elections at all levels. We believe that it is important that all people have their voices heard, especially those that are too often excluded from the political, economic, and social institutions that shape their lives.
